We continue to help departments of Lohvytskyi city hospital, Poltava region. Recently we visited the charming employees of the palliative care department in the village of Luka - we brought disinfectants and cleaning products.
There are still debates about the feasibility of palliative care units, and some people do not even know what they are for.
WHO (World Health Organization) gives the following definition of palliative care:
"Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the challenges of life-threatening illness by preventing and alleviating suffering through early identification and effective assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical , psychosocial and spiritual."
In simple terms, palliative care is an additional level or layer of medical care that can be provided at any age, at any stage of a serious illness, and can be provided SIMULTANEOUSLY, in parallel with radical (curative) therapy. It should be provided by a specially trained team of doctors, nurses and other specialists working together with the patient's other doctors. Yes, if you turn to specialists in time, pain and other severe symptoms can be alleviated, and special methods include psychological, social and spiritual support for both the patient and his relatives or caregivers.
During the war, the capacity of medical facilities increased many times, and the number of people needing effective help from specialists is growing every day. Boys come back to us with various illnesses and injuries that require special care and attention. Therefore, in our opinion, it is unnecessary to discuss here, on the contrary, it is necessary to support and help these institutions for palliative care, both at the state and public level - after all, most Ukrainian hospitals have already opened special rehabilitation programs for our glorious boys!
TOGETHER WE ARE THE FORCE!
