The Oganes Khidiryan’s Charitable Foundation helps publish a textbook on Orthodox architecture

Early 2014, with the support of the Oganes Khidiryan’s Charitable Foundation, the textbook “Architectural Design and Reconstruction of Orthodox Churches” was first published in Ukraine. The textbook is for high school students majoring in “Architecture”, and has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The author is Oleh Sleptsov, a practitioner architect, scientist, doctor of architecture, professor, Honored Architect of Ukraine, full member of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of architecture.

The book tells about the Orthodox church designing technology: from history, tradition and canons to creative design and implementation. The author shares experience of designing an Orthodox church unveiling his creative credo. The book reveals the nuances and features of this complex type of designing and is useful not only for students of architectural universities and religious educational institutions, but also for architects who wish to devote themselves to the spiritual revival of Ukraine. The book has been widely discussed since the architect Oleh Sleptsov shares his creative and professional concepts and, what's more, teaches how to design sacred buildings and structures based on his own rich experience which counts over 70 designed and built churches and temples.

The Oganes Khidiryan’s Charitable Foundation joined the textbook publication in pursuit of its own corporate philosophy. One of the goals the organization has is to facilitate the spiritual and moral education of children, students, and to support individuals who contribute to the development of church construction, the reconstruction of historical and cultural monuments, and those who endeavour to pass their knowledge to the younger generation.

The Oganes Khidiryan’s Charitable Foundation is confident that books like the “Architectural Design and Reconstruction of Orthodox Churches” instill in the younger generation a love of the spiritual and help better understand sacred architecture. With the Foundation’s support, the textbook was delivered to many libraries across Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia, and to the architectural and construction educational institutions in Ukraine.

Currently, Oleh Sleptsov has prepared for publication a large scientific monograph on the architecture of Orthodox churches and complexes – “Orthodox Church Architecture From Concept to Implementation”. In this book, the author mentions the construction of a temple complex in Deimanivka village of the Poltava Region, which is invested by the Oganes Khidiryan's Charitable Foundation. The foreword to the monograph was written by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, the Archbishop of Constantinople-New Rome and will be published with His Blessing.
