On the initiative of Charity Fund named after Mr. Oganes Khidiryan, patron of the, Khidiryan Misak, the library of the Mgar Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery was replenished with new Prayer Books printed in Braille (for use by people with visual impairments).
Copies of the Prayer Book were presented as a gift to the monk of the monastery, Hieromonk Vikenty, on the occasion of the day of memory of St. Athanasius of Lubensky and the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Transfiguration of the Savior Mgarsky Monastery.
History of the monastery: The Mgarsky Monastery was founded on January 18, 1619 by Metropolitan Isaiah of Coptic (then Abbot of Gustinsky and Podgorsky). The monastery has always played an important role in the spiritual life of Ukraine. In 1622, a brotherhood was created within its walls, actively opposing the Catholicization of the left-bank Ukrainians.
Patriarch Seraphim of Constantinople, Metropolitan Joseph of Kyiv, archbishops of Tobolsk - Ambrose (Kelembet), and Poltava - Methodius (Pishnyachevsky) are buried on the territory of the monastery.
In the XVII-XVIII centuries, the monastery chronicle was kept, the manuscripts of which have survived to this day and are in the scientific libraries of Ukraine.
In 1919, Abbot Ambrose and sixteen monks of the Mgarsky monastery were shot by the Bolsheviks, after which the monastery was closed, and its buildings were transferred to secular needs. In 2008, the executed monks were canonized as saints (Comm. 6 August). The revival of the monastery began in 1993.
